Volunteering at any age

Throughout Volunteers Week 2025 we are celebrating volunteers past and present for the outstanding contribution they make to Adult Wellbeing Services.

Meet 18 year old Alfie Dixon-Clark who volunteers at Healthworks in Easington supporting the administration team where he has been volunteering in different roles since he was only eight years old.

Initially introduced to the service by his mum who also volunteers there, Alfie ran a homework club for other youngsters before moving on to his current role. Alfie said: “I enjoy being able to help others, but I’ve also learnt new skills myself. I’ve completed Safeguarding and Health and Safety courses and the staff have been supportive.

Alfie commented: “Most volunteers give their time because they are passionate about supporting their local community – I’ve volunteered in different areas of the service and have found it to be a very enjoyable experience.”

Bill Oxbrough, Volunteer Officer for Wellbeing for Life said of Alfie: “Volunteers are incredibly important to our service and we are proud to have such an inspirational young man volunteering in our service.”
